Determining what is your favorite job has never been an easy task, however it’s necessary to figure out (at least) one.
It is not something you do for a day or two, but you would stick with it at least 8 hours a day for at least 30 years of your precious lifespan (In my case, sometimes my working hour would be from the moment I wake up till I fall back to sleep the next day).
MSc., The University of Sheffield, Management School.
B.A., RMIT University Vietnam, Hanoi campus.
Like most students, I used to have a period of time struggling with my career path. After experiencing different fields, I gradually discovered and sharpened my true desires and expectations towards my job.
With 20 years of experience sitting in classrooms, I had a widely mixed experience of domestic education, international education from at home country and studying abroad. To me, studying abroad is not only for sharpening your knowledge, but also an experience to challenge and complete yourself as a person. To look out at the world and understand yourself, to realize your own values.
What I do love about this job is the continuous experiences and opportunities to learn and widen my viewpoints towards the world and its people. The opportunities to get in touch with interesting and talented individuals who would become shining stars in the future.
I think my job is a form of the arts which involves a lot of interactions as well as feelings. I don’t simply analyze student’s cases based on their given facts, i.e: GPA, standardized test scores, their addressed major, … Instead, I search for their best fit, i.e: Do they know what they are going to study? Will they really like doing it in the future? What’s their Ikigai? In general, what they want and be able to study which can help them get a decent job and have a meaningful life in the future.
