While the periodic SEVIS updates, sometimes monthly, other times quarterly, contain real-time statistics, the annual reports present cumulative totals. According to the 2022 report (PDF download), the total number of SEVIS records for active F-1 and M-1 students was 1,362,157 in 2022, an increase of 10.1% from 2021 and the largest number since 2019.

There were 53,517 international student records for K-12 education last year. Vietnam ranked fifth among sending countries with 2,933 students, behind Spain (3,226), Mexico (4,076), South Korea (4,368), and China (13,565).

Vietnam ranked 6th in total enrollment between Brazil (#5) and Japan #7) with 29,742 students for the entire year. The gender distribution remained stable at 54% for females and 46% for males.

Based on statistical and anecdotal evidence, the new normal recovery continues unabated. While the US remains the leading English-speaking destination for Vietnamese students, followed by Australia and Canada, students and parents have more choices than ever within the US and between the US and other countries.
